How Town
A game in the making · Ages 5–8

Welcome to How Town.

A little town for big thinkers.

For kids who ask "why?" Then "why?" again. And again. And again...

An illustrated town with a little home, workshop, water tower and windmill connected by winding paths
For those lovely "but why" years

“But… how does it work?”
Let’s go find out.

Where does the water go when you flush? What’s actually happening inside a light switch? Fair questions. In How Town, kids get to poke around, try a few things, and work it out. Turns out there's quite a lot you can discover in everyday life.

A perfectly ordinary town.
Until you look closer.

For the grown-ups

Kids already have so many questions. Why not let them figure out the answers?

Welcome to How Town is a calm exploration and puzzle game in the making for ages 5–8. Kids get time to look closely, try an idea, and try another one. Then comes the “Ohhh, I get it!” That’s the bit we’re here for.

A few things you might be wondering ↓

Curiosity leads the way

A child wonders where the water goes when they flush. In How Town, they can lift the lid, pull the handle, and watch what happens inside the tank.

Room for trial and error

When an idea doesn’t work, kids can take their time, change one thing, and try again. Even a gear turning the wrong way gives them a clue about what to try next.

Hints when kids need them

With “Ask the World,” kids can choose when to ask for help. A first hint might point out a loose part. If they’re still stuck, the next can suggest what to try with it.

A note from the creator

I grew up on games like this.
I’d like my kids to have one, too.

As someone who loved Gizmos and Gadgets, Thinkin' Things, and Treasure Mountain as a kid, I am creating a (hopefully) fun, curiosity-driven game for young kids to better understand how the world around them works.

What will children do in the game?

Have a look around town, peek inside everyday things, and solve a few problems along the way. Move a part, try a connection, see what changes. Ideally, there’ll be a fair amount of “Come look what I figured out!”

We’re building How Town around the satisfaction of figuring something out. There are no coins or badges to chase, and no slot-machine-style reward loops designed to keep kids clicking. A question gets them curious, an experiment gives them an idea, and solving the problem is its own reward. We want that “I wonder how…” to follow them into everyday life, too.

Who is it being made for?

Curious kids ages 5–8. Especially the ones who want to know what’s behind the wall, under the lid, or on the other end of that pipe.

Can we play How Town yet?

Not quite. We’re still building the place! This page gives you a feel for the idea and the world we’re imagining. You can peek into the destinations, but the puzzles aren’t playable yet.

When will it be available, and on which devices?

Those details are still being worked out. Right now, the focus is on the town and its first puzzles. We’ll have more to share once there’s something concrete to put in the calendar.

FOR UPDATES

We’ll send a note when the town’s ready for visitors.
